Samsung's rugged Galaxy XCover Scan surfaces in trademark filing and benchmark tests

Samsung appears to be preparing a rugged successor in its XCover line, reportedly to be called the Galaxy XCover Scan, according to Notebookcheck. Two separate traces, a trademark application and benchmark entries, point to a Qualcomm Dragonwing processor and a feature that is unusual for the series.
Trademark application hints at the new name
No new model has appeared in the XCover series since the Galaxy XCover7 Pro arrived in May 2025. According to the Notebookcheck report, SammyGuru has now found a trademark application indicating that the device may be sold under the name Galaxy XCover Scan.
Samsung is an electronics company headquartered in Suwon.
Benchmark entries reveal chip and memory
Three smartphones bearing the model number SM-G778B were run through Geekbench on October 14. The next-generation XCover had already turned up in the GSMA database in August. The benchmark entries point to a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-6690 SoC, a chip that packs the parts of a complete computer onto one piece of silicon. According to Geekbench, at least one variant pairs it with 8 GB of RAM.
Qualcomm presents its 2025 chip as the first smartphone processor with an integrated UHF RFID chip. The company says the silicon can, among other things, open doors with compatible locks or scan products, a capability that could also account for the product name.
Connectivity and camera limits
The chip supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and USB 3.1. It is, however, restricted to cameras with a maximum resolution of 32 megapixels.
