Alphabet's cloud unit grew its revenue 82% year over year to $24.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, while the Gemini app reached 950 million monthly active users, according to a report by Crypto Briefing.

Cloud growth accelerates sharply

Google Cloud's revenue rose 82% year over year to $24.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026, a clear step up from the 63% growth reported for the first quarter of the same year. Google Cloud's operating income more than tripled to $8.8 billion over the same period.

Alphabet reported $514 billion in contracted revenue not yet recognized, a backlog that sits at more than 20 times Google Cloud's quarterly revenue. Cloud now accounts for roughly a fifth of Alphabet's total revenue of $119.8 billion, which rose 24% year over year.

Gemini app expands its user base

The Gemini app reached 950 million monthly active users, up from approximately 450 million a year earlier. It stood at around 750 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2025, and daily active users tripled year over year.

Crypto Briefing describes Alphabet's strategic AI investments as paying off, positioning the company as a dominant force in both consumer and enterprise AI markets. Alphabet, which is based in Mountain View, has long been viewed as exposed to the rise of AI chatbots, a perception the report says the quarter has begun to shift.

Open questions

  • Will the Gemini app keep its current growth rate in coming quarters?
  • How much of the $514 billion backlog will convert into recognised revenue, and when?
