Notebookcheck reports that Xiaomi's in-house Xring O3 chip posts strong GPU and multi-core results in the Pad 9 Pro Max, leaving Google's Tensor G5 well behind. Its AI performance, however, trails Apple's M4 and M5 by a wide margin.

GPU and multi-core results against rivals

According to Notebookcheck, the Mali G2-Ultra NX MP16 graphics unit in the Xring O3 keeps pace with Apple's M5 in GFXBench's 4K test. The lead in 3DMark is small, yet the report says the 4K result points to the chip's dominance.

In the Geekbench 6 multi-core test, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max lands more than 50 percent ahead of a Pixel 10 Pro equipped with the Tensor G5. In the demanding 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited test, the tablet passes 30,000 points.

Running at 85 FPS, the Pad 9 Pro Max leads the Tensor G5 by more than 70 percent and an iPad Pro 11 by more than 40 percent.

CPU and AI performance remain mixed

The Xring O3's CPU performance sits between Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Apple's M4, while Apple's M5 stays clearly in front in CPU tests, the report notes.

In AI tests, the chip's NPU falls far behind Apple's M4 and M5. Google's Tensor G5, which is traditionally geared toward AI applications, scores higher in some Geekbench AI tests, though the report says a clearer picture emerges in further tests.

How the chip is assessed

Despite its AI shortfall, the report describes the Xring O3 as one of the fastest ARM chips available. The source characterises the chipset as a notable step forward for Xiaomi.
