Microsoft has built a Cloud Rebuild option into Windows 11 that can erase the system and install it again from a fresh image and drivers taken from Windows Update, even on a PC that no longer boots. The capability comes in the optional preview update KB5127936, published on October 28 for Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2, and TechPowerUp reports that it is reaching machines in stages.

Where the option appears

On a PC that still starts, the feature is found in Settings under System and then Recovery, where it is labelled "Rebuild PC". If the machine fails to start, the report says it should switch after several unsuccessful boots into the Windows Recovery Environment, WinRE, and the option is listed there under the Troubleshoot menu.

A step beyond the existing cloud download

The "Reset this PC" menu already includes a Cloud download mode. According to Microsoft, Cloud rebuild goes further because it also takes drivers from the cloud and does not rely on the installed copy of Windows still being intact, which is the difference the report focuses on.
