He emphasized that the mission will require a sequenced series of launches involving three different vehicles and providers, and that NASA will only commit the Space Launch System (SLS) if Blue Origin’s lander is already in orbit. Speaking during a wide-ranging interview with NSF, Isaacman confirmed that Artemis III is structured around an initial New Glenn launch carrying Blue Origin’s Blue Moon lander. Blue Origin is an aerospace company based in Kent, and its products and services include New Glenn.

That vehicle is expected to have the ability to loiter in orbit for roughly 30 days. Instead, it relies on three separate launches from three different providers.

Blue Moon is expected to be able to loiter in orbit for roughly 30 days, giving time for checkouts before the crewed vehicle arrives.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has spoken on the planned architecture and contingencies for the Artemis III multi-vehicle campaign. That flight would be followed by the SLS/Orion crew launch and a Starship launch.

Isaacman outlines Artemis III multi-launch checkout sequence and Blue Origin priority by Chris Bergin October 31, 2026 written by Chris Bergin October 31, 2026 1 NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman has spoken on the planned architecture and contingencies for the Artemis III multi-vehicle campaign. It is intended to exercise the three major flight elements together, gather operational data, and build experience ahead of a later crewed lunar landing attempt.

Under the current plan, it will not be a single-launch profile. The approach is a deliberate departure from the Apollo model and from earlier Artemis concepts that assumed a more tightly coupled architecture.
