DekaBank, the securities provider for Germany's Sparkassen savings banks, has started crypto trading that lets adult customers of participating banks buy and sell Bitcoin through the Sparkasse app. According to CryptoSlate, which reported the launch, each order carries a €0.99 fee plus a spread, and customers face restrictions on where they can move their holdings.

How customers gain access

The service, called "Krypto – powered by Deka", is open to adult customers of participating Sparkassen. A current account at a participating savings bank is required, and the crypto account is opened through the investing section of the app. Besides Bitcoin, the offering covers Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Polygon's POL.

Deka's list of participating banks names Frankfurter Sparkasse, Sparkasse Rottal-Inn, Niederrheinische Sparkasse RheinLippe, Taunus Sparkasse and Sparkasse Karlsruhe. Each savings bank makes its own decision on whether to offer the service, and the rollout is set to proceed in stages over the coming months.

Costs and transfer restrictions

Deka's retail pricing sheet charges €0.99 per purchase or sale, with no minimum order size and a ceiling of €250,000 per transaction. The trading quote also includes a DekaBank spread added to a market reference price. The sheet gives no numerical spread rate, so the order fee alone does not show the full cost of a trade.

Deka keeps customers' crypto centrally and holds the private keys on their behalf in a shared, or omnibus, wallet. Outbound delivery is permitted only to addresses at specified crypto-asset service providers, known as CASPs, which rules out transfers to a customer's own self-custody wallet. Deka lists custody and permitted outbound delivery as free. Its product page also warns that technical faults and maintenance can stop customers from buying or selling at their preferred time or price.

Background and open points

The launch follows plans reported in June 2025. Deka's announcement and bank directory give no figures for opened crypto accounts or active trading customers, so the scale of actual use remains unclear.
