Valve is a video game company based in Bellevue.

Linux / Unix As announced during the GOG Showcase on November 5, GOG Galaxy – the official launcher for the popular DRM-free gaming platform – is getting native Linux support. The new feature is part of a larger overhaul that will also bring several improvements to Windows and macOS, including faster performance, a modernized interface and better filtering options.

After all, DRM-free games can generally be launched without an internet-dependent activation process or recurring license checks. This means it will also run on the Steam Deck (OLED version reviewed here at Notebookcheck ).

However, the addition of native Linux support is particularly interesting for the Steam Deck, Steam Machine and other Linux-based systems. Since GOG has never offered a native Linux version of its Galaxy launcher, users have had to rely on alternative solutions.

One popular option is the Heroic Games Launcher, which handles the installation and management of GOG games but doesn't always work flawlessly with every title. On Reddit, for example, users have reported issues with cloud save synchronization and additional setup steps required to launch certain games .

This is especially appealing for gaming on the go, given GOG's DRM-free approach. Registration for future beta access is already open.
