GOG Previews Galaxy Launcher for Linux, Due in 2027
GOG has officially previewed an updated version of its GOG Galaxy launcher, which for the first time will include a Linux version. The new launcher has not yet been released, and an announcement video points to a 2027 launch window.
What GOG has announced
GOG has long said it was working on a Galaxy launcher for Linux, but the company has now shown the updated launcher in a new announcement on X. According to that post, Galaxy will receive a proper Linux version for the first time.
The post also says the macOS and Windows versions have been updated. The changes include a new user interface, faster loading and new tools for managing a game library.
Availability and timing
The new launcher has not yet been made available to the public, not even in testing. The announcement video showed the launcher's user interface and gave a 2027 launch window, but no more precise date.
GOG's post also addresses ownership. Games remain available to download and keep through offline installers, as they have always been.
Open questions
- Will the Linux version arrive within the announced 2027 launch window?
- Will the public be able to test the new launcher before its release?
