Android Authority reports that Acer's Intel Arc-powered handheld, a rival to Valve's Steam Deck, has now been given a price and a release date. The device is nearly ready to leave the lab and reach buyers.

Hardware at a glance

The handheld combines Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor with an 8-inch display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate. An 80Wh battery powers the machine, which runs Windows 11.

Intel is a semiconductor and electrical company based in Santa Clara. Valve, the company behind the Steam Deck, is a video game company based in Bellevue.

Pre-orders sold out early

Acer says the first pre-order round sold out last week, before the handheld had even arrived in stores. Gaming handhelds have grown considerably more capable in recent years, letting players carry demanding PC titles almost anywhere on devices such as the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally.

The price is high for a portable gaming device, yet according to the report it has not put buyers off.
