SkyrimMT Brings Skyrim to Apple Silicon Macs Through an Unofficial App

An unofficial project named SkyrimMT is trying to make Bethesda's role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim easier to play and mod on Apple silicon Macs, a platform the game has never supported officially, MacRumors reports.
Workarounds for a Mac-less release
Released in 2011, Skyrim has since appeared on several console generations, yet Bethesda has never brought it to the Mac. Owners have instead leaned on makeshift routes, among them Windows installed through Boot Camp on Intel machines and compatibility software such as CrossOver.
Apple silicon Macs lack Boot Camp, which leaves players reliant on other tools to run the Windows edition of the game.
What SkyrimMT does
SkyrimMT gathers the steps needed to get the game running into one dedicated app. Its automated setup installs the necessary compatibility software and guides users through signing in to Steam and installing their own copy of the game.
According to the report, the attraction lies in combining these steps, so players no longer have to put the process together themselves.
Open questions
- Will SkyrimMT stay available and be maintained over time?
- Does modding work as smoothly with the project as the initial setup does?
