Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899

Apple has introduced a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, a step that Bloomberg reports as abandoning two decades of resistance to touch on its Macs. Apple says the 14-inch model starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399.
Touchscreen arrives with OLED and Dynamic Island
The redesigned laptop pairs a touchscreen with an OLED display and a Dynamic Island, the strip at the top of iPhone screens that shows alerts and controls. It is the first Mac to use an OLED panel.
The change runs counter to a stance associated with Steve Jobs, the former Apple chief executive, who was against touch input on the Mac.
Sizes, chips and launch timing
The MacBook Pro comes in 14-inch and 16-inch versions, with either an M5 Pro or an M5 Max chip. Apple puts the entry prices at $2,899 for the smaller model and $3,399 for the larger one.
Pre-orders are open now, and deliveries are scheduled to begin on 6 November.
Lighter body and battery claims
The new model is thinner and noticeably lighter. The 14-inch version weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than its predecessor, while the 16-inch weighs 4 pounds. Apple promises up to 24 hours of battery life.
