Japan is preparing to send a spacecraft on what would be the first mission to bring back samples from Phobos, one of Mars's two small moons, according to a report from Phys.org.

Target is one of Mars's two moons

The planned mission targets Phobos, a small moon that circles Mars. The report describes the moon as one of two such bodies orbiting the planet, and notes its irregular, potato-like shape.

If the mission succeeds as planned, it would be the first to return material collected from the Martian moon, making it the first sample-return effort aimed at Phobos.
