OpenAI reportedly raises $11 billion at $1.25 trillion valuation

OpenAI has reportedly raised $11 billion in a first tranche of a funding round that values the artificial intelligence company at $1.25 trillion, while it keeps its initial public offering on hold.
Initial tranche falls short of target
According to Reuters, citing a source familiar with the matter, OpenAI closed the initial $11 billion on November 6, 2026. Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that investors had wired the funds to the company and that the round could nearly double in size over the coming weeks.
The amount raised so far is only a portion of the original target of up to $30 billion.
Valuation below earlier ambitions
Two investors told Reuters that the valuation had come down from the $1.5 trillion level the company initially sought. The $1.25 trillion figure is therefore slightly below earlier targets, though it still signals strong confidence in the company's market potential, particularly in its ChatGPT products.
SoftBank and MGX are reported to have participated. Coatue Management and T. are also named among significant investors, and Microsoft Corp. is listed among possible participants.
Public listing remains deferred
The round comes as OpenAI continues to postpone an initial public offering and instead concentrates on raising private capital. OpenAI is based in San Francisco and offers products including ChatGPT.
Reporting on the financing has appeared in several outlets, but the details of the round have not been independently confirmed beyond these reports.
Open questions
- Will the round grow to the full $30 billion target?
- Will the final valuation match the $1.25 trillion reported?
