Apple Sets November 4 for First iOS 27.3 Beta With China Apple Intelligence

Apple has said the first iOS 27.3 developer beta will arrive next week and will activate some Apple Intelligence features in China. The company gave the timing in a press release on its Chinese Newsroom website, an unusual move for a beta schedule.
Beta date and time zone caveat
The press release names Wednesday, November 4 as the release day. Because of the time difference, that most likely means Tuesday, November 3 in the U.S.
Apple tied November 4 to the start of Apple Intelligence testing in China, which is not necessarily the day the iOS 27.3 beta itself appears. The public version is slated for December, although Apple gave no specific day.
What reaches China and what does not
According to the press release, users in China will get an improved Siri experience, including Type to Siri and access to Alibaba's Qwen for certain requests. Qwen can be reached through Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence, with access granted by signing into an account or using Sign in with Apple.
Users will be able to pose questions about photos and documents, including PDFs and presentations, and produce new material through Writing Tools. Apple states that Siri AI and other newer features unveiled at WWDC 2026 will not be available in China on iOS 27.3, and Image Playground is also left out. The iPhone and Siri must be set to English and Chinese (Simplified).
A long road to regulatory clearance
Reuters reported in mid-July that Apple Intelligence had cleared a major regulatory hurdle after lengthy exchanges with Chinese regulators and several delays. Bloomberg later reported a planned December launch without Siri AI and the newer features. The state-backed outlet The Paper reported that Tim Cook had confirmed regulatory approval, with a test version expected before the end of October.
Apple released iOS 27.2 last Monday, extending Siri AI support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, and said four more languages, including Traditional Chinese, would follow by year's end. That announcement contained nothing on Apple Intelligence in China. Apple typically ships the first beta of its next update soon after the previous release, which makes the iOS 27.3 timing stand out.
Open questions
- Will Siri AI and the newer Apple Intelligence features reach China at a later date?
- Will the public iOS 27.3 release in December land on a specific day?
