Google is developing an option for Android 17 that keeps connectivity tiles in Quick Settings from being switched without unlocking the phone. Android Authority reports that the change appears in the latest beta.

Which tiles can be secured

The option covers the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data and Airplane Mode tiles, which can be locked on the lock screen. Android Authority reports the change in the latest beta.

A locked tile can only be changed once the device has been unlocked.

Protection for stolen phones

The stated purpose is to make it harder for thieves to disable connectivity on a stolen handset. Turning off Wi-Fi, mobile data or Bluetooth can make a device harder to track.

The available information does not say how widely the feature will be rolled out.
