Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) and Adrian Flux have launched what they describe as the UK's first household insurance policy for domestic humanoid robots. The product is meant to support a customer market that is only beginning to take shape.

How the cover is delivered

UK customers can take out the cover as part of Adrian Flux's home insurance offering, with the policy underwritten by TMHCCI, an insurer headquartered in Houston, Texas.

The partners present the product as a first of its kind in the UK. It belongs to a new product class that they say is intended to help the emerging customer market develop.

Demand already visible abroad

Interest has already surfaced in the United States, where robotics and AI firms have brought humanoid robots designed for the home to market. Early models are open for pre-order at $20,000.

Domestic robots are expected to arrive in British homes from 2027, the period the insurance launch is being prepared for.

Open questions

  • How will the policy be priced and what will it cover in practice?
