Figure AI is subjecting its latest humanoid robot, Figure 03, to an extended endurance trial on a treadmill. According to CEO Brett Adcock, the robot has covered 348 miles and logged 1.2 million steps over nine consecutive days, a test aimed at uncovering faults that shorter demonstrations might miss.

What the endurance run has covered

Adcock reported the figures on X, saying Figure 03 had covered 348 miles and logged 1.2 million steps during nine consecutive days on a treadmill. A time-lapse he shared shows the robot walking inside a testing facility, with a power cable attached to its body.

The trial is a deliberate attempt to push the machine well beyond the short demonstrations that typically show off humanoid robots.

A side project built to find failures

Adcock said the experiment started as a side project. Its purpose was to stress the robot and expose potential failures before they appear in real deployments.

The run follows several other attempts by Figure to take its humanoids past brief showcases and into longer operation.

Open questions

  • Which failures, if any, did the nine-day run expose?
  • How long will the endurance test continue beyond nine days?
