Anthropic adds read-only personal finance tool to Claude for US subscribers
Anthropic has built a Personal Finance function into Claude, letting eligible US subscribers connect bank and card accounts and put questions about balances, transactions and spending to the assistant. The company stresses that the tool can view financial data but cannot act on it.
How subscribers link their accounts
Anthropic unveiled Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026, as a beta release. According to the company, eligible users attach their financial accounts through the Plaid service and then pose questions about their money in everyday language.
Claude can unpack unfamiliar financial jargon and reply in plain terms. It groups spending into categories, keeps an eye on upcoming bills and flags purchases that break from a user's usual pattern. It also searches for unexpected fees, rising charges and subscriptions, and presents its findings as charts, calendars and dashboards.
Read-only access and its limits
Anthropic emphasises that the access is read-only. Claude is unable to shift, administer or invest money, and the feature is not intended to offer investment advice. Because accounts are linked through Plaid, the company says Claude never gains sight of bank passwords.
Anthropic also cautions that Claude can err. Users are advised to ask which transactions sit behind a figure and to verify important amounts with their bank.
Gradual rollout across the United States
The function is arriving in stages and is restricted to the Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the United States. Reports position it as Anthropic's response to ChatGPT Finances, which offers a comparable way of using a chat assistant with financial data.
Open questions
- When will the feature reach subscribers outside the United States?
- Will the beta remain limited to the Pro, Max and Ultra plans once it becomes generally available?
