Nasdaq-listed Next Technology Holding (NXTT) says its board has authorised selling or borrowing against its entire stash of 5,833 BTC, a decision taken a day after a hot wallet breach at the exchange Binance.

What the board approved

According to the report, the board's approval took effect on October 30, 2026. It allows the company either to sell the Bitcoin outright or to pledge the coins as collateral for loans, and it leaves the timing and method to the chief executive. The stated goals are reducing market exposure and improving liquidity.

The holdings are valued at approximately $450 to $480 million, depending on the Bitcoin price used, while the company's market capitalisation sits at roughly $7 to $8 million.

The Binance incident behind the move

The decision followed a hot wallet incident at Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange and finance company based in the United Arab Emirates, reported on October 29 and involving approximately $6.3 billion. Hot wallets stay online to permit fast withdrawals, which makes them an obvious target for attackers.

Binance linked the incident to North Korean actors, and approximately $3 billion of the stolen assets has reportedly been frozen. The board pointed to broader worries about exchange security and also cited quantum computing as a longer-range concern for digital asset holders.

Custody and verification questions remain

NXTT says none of its Bitcoin is held through Binance, so the exchange breach did not directly touch its coins by the company's own account. The filings, however, do not name the institutional custodians and give no wallet addresses that would let outsiders confirm the holdings on-chain, leaving shareholders to rely on the company's statements.

The company first disclosed Bitcoin purchases in 2023, and the total outlay is put at around $175 to $183 million.

Open questions

  • Will NXTT sell its Bitcoin outright or pledge it as collateral for loans?
  • Who are the company's institutional custodians, and can the holdings be verified on-chain?
