PS5 emulator successfully runs six titles at a playable 60 FPS
What happened
SharpEmu’s latest release can run six tested PS5 games at 60 FPS, with 12 of 55 titles now reaching gameplay state, as developers improve shader translation and Vulkan support. The breakthrough was achieved with SharpEmu v0.0.4-release.2, the emulator’s latest public build released on September 25.
Developers of SharpEmu — an experimental, open-source PS5 emulator — have successfully run PS5 games at a playable 60 FPS on the emulator. The six 60 FPS titles are Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Tetris Forever, Hoa, and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered .
Developed in C#, the SharpEmu PS5 emulator provides support for Windows, Linux, and macOS and uses Vulkan and MoltenVK for graphics API (the interface one piece of software uses to talk to another) calls. PlayStation 5 relies on an AMD Zen 2 x86-64 CPU architecture ; therefore, SharpEmu can execute the console's CPU instructions natively on a standard PC rather than translating them from an unfamiliar instruction set.
