What happened

India’s two largest ecommerce platforms, Amazon India and Flipkart, have launched their flagship annual festive sales—the Amazon Great Indian Festival (GIF) 2026 and Flipkart’s The Big Billion Days (TBBD) 2026. The platform saw a 100% year-on-year increase in products ordered, while daily app downloads surged fivefold.

Both ecommerce platforms reported record day-one activity, driven by shoppers in non-metro markets. Amazon recorded a 100% year-on-year increase in products ordered, while Flipkart reported peak traffic of 6.3 million concurrent users per minute.

Both platforms reported strong consumer participation, sharp increase in demand across categories, and growing adoption of quick-commerce delivery options in non-metro markets. Scale, traffic, and reach Amazon said it recorded over 440 million visits during the opening phase of its sale, the highest volume in its history.
