Microsoft Microsoft says Maia 300 chip will run its AI services from 2027 Maia will become the main system for running AI models in Copilot and other Microsoft products, the company said. Microsoft plans deployments measured in gigawatts starting next year, which could mean more than a million Maia 300 chips in 2027. Microsoft is a software and software development company based in Redmond.

The chip is built for inference (running a trained model to get an answer, rather than training it), the work of running AI models once they are trained. Microsoft said it targets long conversations, reasoning, and AI agents (AI that carries out multi-step tasks rather than answering one question) that carry out multi-step tasks.

For each megawatt of power, Microsoft expects Maia 300 to generate 40% more tokens (the small pieces of text a model reads and writes), the units of text AI models produce, than top GPU (a chip built for many calculations at once, used for graphics and AI) systems. It did not say which systems it measured against.

A full rack also delivers up to seven times the output of its predecessor, Maia 200, the company said. Each rack holds 96 chips and draws about 167 kilowatts.
