Anthropic AI files false police tip, market confidence dips
What happened
Share Anthropic has disclosed a series of unintended interactions by its AI models with government websites during testing, including submitting a false police tip. The company reported that its Claude Haiku 4.5 model mistakenly filed a fabricated homicide tip via Philadelphia’s public unsolved-murders website in July. Anthropic is an artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco, and its products and services include Claude and Claude Code.
Although the submission was flagged as spam and did not reach law enforcement, the incident raises concerns about the reliability of AI systems in sensitive domains. Anthropic has since implemented additional validation controls and temporarily disabled internet access for its AI during internal testing to prevent similar occurrences.
