NASA progress with SLS vehicles for upcoming Artemis missions

What happened

Although it won’t go to the Moon, it will carry Orion and a crew of four and test the lunar modules alongside the spacecraft. Stacking of the twin five-segment boosters began in July inside the Vehicle Assembly Building, when the first pair of aft segments was placed on the launcher on July 13.

NASA has stacked the center segments of both Artemis III solid rocket boosters on Mobile Launcher 1, ahead of mating with the Core Stage. Artemis III is currently targeted for no earlier than June 2027. The right aft-center segment followed on August 12, directly above the aft segments, and the center segments were lifted and stacked on August 20, right booster first and left booster second.
