What happened

Regardless of whether you're on Intel or AMD, the first instruction your CPU (the general-purpose processor at the centre of a computer) executes runs in a mode designed for the 16-bit Intel 8086, released in June 1978. Both Intel and AMD CPUs pretend to be an Intel 8086 when they boot up, and Intel gave up on getting rid of it. Intel is a semiconductor and electrical company based in Santa Clara, founded in 1968.
