What happened
IDC Frontier, a major Japanese cloud and digital infrastructure company, disclosed that its IDCF Cloud service was targeted in a ransomware (software that locks up files and demands payment) attack that caused an outage at a data center (a building full of computers that runs online services) cluster serving the eastern part of the country.
